The Houston Health Department, with the help of Children's Museum Houston, seek to give your baby a great start in life! The Basics is a free program which empowers parents with learning tools that support improved brain development in children during their first three years of life.
Beginning from birth, your baby's brain develops like little muscles - as much as 80-percent by age 3! The time you spend talking, singing, playing and reading to your baby helps build important connections in their brain - as many as 700 connections per second! Through a series of free "fun-shops" in neighborhoods around Houston, new parents are encouraged to practice with their babies five fun, simple, yet powerful “basics” which help build an early foundation for their children to be able to read, speak, solve problems, do well in school and have positive relationships later in life.
Check out My20 KTXH and Univision 45 KXLN for our video series and learn more about the Five Basics Houston!
Children's Museum Houston and My20 KTXH are flipping for literacy! Join CMH Educators for "FLIP Time" as they explore some of our favorite books and lead interactive activities you can try at home.
