It’s something that scientists, farmers, and even gardeners do. They all measure soil composition! The basic components of soil are minerals, organic matter, water and air. Soil provides nutrients and water for plants and other organisms, cleans and filters water, and recycles essential plant nutrients. While soil minerals and organic matter hold and store nutrients, soil water is what readily provides nutrients for plant uptake. Follow our educator as she shows you how to measure soil composition in your very own backyard.
